Fulfilled, Peaceful Living
A life with meaning. Going to bed feeling peaceful, content, fulfilled. Most would agree that they long for a life like that and yet few rarely achieve it.
Let’s break down what it takes to experience balanced living.
Life is made up of a number of key areas, in integrative health we call those primary foods, the areas in which, once fully addressed, nurture and fuel us deeply. We aren’t talking here about fruits and veggies but in fact 12 key areas of life that when aligned create the experience of a healthy, thriving, balanced life.
Now before I get into these areas and unlock the secret to fulfillment let’s talk about human default aka what most of us do and so keep doing because it’s how humans work.
Most of us have a skill set we are strong at, we can get results easily in, we love to spend time doing. Now while these areas will definitely differ person to person, what’s common amongst us all is when we feel stuck, unfulfilled, want more….we typically go to those strong areas first and do more.
If you love fitness and moving your body and can see results quickly in the gym, this might look like when life feels heavy, unfulfilling, overwhelming- you hit the gym for a big workout or join a new group fitness class, maybe even buy that cool new piece of equipment for home.
If on the other hand you love finances and managing money, when life feels tough you might whip out your budgeting spreadsheet, pre pay some bills, tighten up the monthly budget and check in on your investments or savings.
Another common one is those who have found a career they love. While they work on salary and more work doesn’t mean more pay, many when life feel like a lot will head into with early or stay late enjoying the satisfaction of that project they’re working on, the recognition from the higher ups for their extra efforts or the thanks they get from clients for a job well done.
No matter the area, if you look at your own life, can you see that when life isn’t ideal, you tend to lean on those areas you already love, are already going well, where you know you can feel good with ease.
Well. This is exciting to notice because doing more of what is already working will never get you what you are missing.
Read that again.
You heard me right. Doing more of the things that are already working will never get you the things you’re missing.
So what’s the secret?
Well let’s look at life and consider it a wheel. The circle of life called by some, a wellness wheel by other, in essence the thought is when all of these areas come together you can access a fulfilling life that runs smoothly.
When working with clients one on one or when clients go thru the Be Set Free digital guide we start off by looking at this wheel and assessing where life is currently at. Eating each of the 12 areas on a scale of 1-10 you will see the “wheel” you’re using to drive thru life. You will notice in most cases especially the first time you go thru the exercise that you are driving on a flat tire. Some areas are high in eating, others low and when everything comes together it is evident your life is off balance.
Now not to worry. This is great news. Once you see life in this simplicity you can access change. Those areas that are missing become opportunities and that life of peace, ease, contentment and flow are now available for YOU.
Let’s continue with our wheel and driving analogy. If you’re driving a car and the tire is flat, how’s the ride? Consider the same is true for life! When you’re trying to get thru life with a wheel that’s flat, you’re all over the place, struggling, putting in more work than a needed and at the end of the day not going anywhere fast.
Now on the flip side when you jump in your car for a road trip, gas tank full, tire pressure in check, scheduled maintenance up to date - you jump in, blast your fave road trip playlist and drive off without a care in the world. Effortless. Fun. Smooth. In no time you’re at your destination asking yourself how time flew by.
Allow yourself to consider the same is said for your life and this wellness wheel is your access to one or the other.
So instead of doing more of what’s already working, shifting your focus to getting that wheel in balance so you can fly becomes the new norm and the wheel your tool.
So what are the areas and how to get started.
The 12 primary foods or key life areas that are required for optimal health and a fulfilling life are as follows:
Creativity. Finances. Career. Education. Health.
Physical Activity. Home Cooking. Home Environment. Relationships. Social Life. Joy. Spirituality.
To get started look at each and grade yourself 1-10. Notice which are high (meaning your Killin it already) and which are lower scores (maybe an area you’re avoiding or one you just don’t love focusing on). Next up allow yourself the courage to take one of those lower areas and commit to something new this week in that area that could bring up your score.
